Movie Lust

One of the best websites on the internet, and one of the longest running, is IMDB. The Internet Movie Database. I often find myself randomly clicking through its links to see what movies are coming out and who is playing in them. Today's search turned up plenty to be excited about.

First up is a future project by one of my favourite directors Darren Aranofsky who is doing a film version of the Lone Wolf and Cub graphic novel series. I just hope he snags Ken Watanabe from The Last Samurai for the lead. Not sure how I got from there to the page for Marvel's next superhero movie Ghost Rider which is exciting until you realize it is being directed by the same guy that did Daredevil but really, the casting director is more to blame for that one so Ghost Rider could still turn out ok. Speaking of curious casting... Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in next summer's The DaVinci Code? Maybe, but I'm skeptical. They did however get the casting for Sophie Nevue dead on with Audrey Tatou from the delightful Amelie from a few years back. Another novel turned movie is A Scanner Darkly about a narcotics officer that gets so fucked up on drugs he starts narc'ing on himself. It's done in this painted over the film cartoony way that is perfect for the material. You can see this in the trailer. Now onto what's coming in asian cinema. Jet Li after doing an incredible job with Danny the Dog is coming out with a tournament movie. I love martial arts tournament movies and it's been a long time since we've had a good one. One of the best fight choreographers out there is Yuen Woo Ping almost a household name after his work with The Matrix. He has a few projects on the go. Snow and the Seven is an adaptation of snow white and the seven dwarves with shaolin monks in place of dwarves -- good, because the world isn't ready for dwarf fu. Stop groaning, you're here for the links, not the jokes. And The Hands of Shang-Chi is another comic book adaptation but hard to say if it is going to happen as there isn't much for current info on it. Everyone's favourite martial arts heroine, Michelle Yeoh is coming out with a live action version of Mulan - not sure who is going to play Mulan though as the character is just a girl.

Lots (at least for me) to look forward to!
